In 2007, I was showing my work to legendary comics artist, Neal Adams, who suggested I should use tracing as a tool, and as a learning experience. This suggestion sparked some interest in me, and while considering it, I came up with a story where I would reference famous religious paintings, and string them together into a story. I planned for it to be a series, and I scripted the first comic book issue, and even tried some layouts with a funky font that in retrospect didn’t work, and eventually I abandoned the project. However, the below art was my first exploration of tracing famous museum paintings or sculptures into lined inkwork.

Doris Danger is a photojournalist bent on proving the existence of giant monsters. Drawn in the style of Jack Kirby’s 1950’s-60’s GIANT MONSTER comics, Doris first appeared in the self-published Tabloia Weekly Magazine #572-576, as 5-page backup stories. These adventures were then re-printed in the self-published Doris Danger Treasuries and Doris Danger vol. 1 (published by SLG), with vol.2 Monstrosis as a followup to the SLG reprint compilation. In 2021, vol. 3 will be published by Fantagraphics in full color. This means hundreds of pages of published Danger adventures, a whole bunch of which you can read here at my website’s semi-interactive web-comic.
