145a. MICHAEL LARK (approx. 9:20) – DIARY OF A STRUGGLING COMICS ARTIST

Way back in 2005, Michael Lark caught Chris’s attention with the Vertigo series, Teminal City and its clean, elegant layouts. Chris, a longtime fan of film noir, was attracted to Michael’s incredible sensibilities with his uses of black shadows to create depth, in such books as Batman: Nine Lives, the comic book adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s little sister, and then the police procedural Gotham Central and Daredevil. Even in comics like Captain America or Hawkman, his compositions with black stand out sharply. After this interview, he and Greg Rucka created the Eisner award winning creator owned series, Lazarus.
