Way back in 2010, when my sons were 4 and 1 (!!!!), I asked my older son what he wanted for Christmas, and he asked for “a zoo comic book” (???) I set a goal for myself to try and create one for him in less than four weeks, and this was the result.

At this time, I was reading to the boys every night I was home from work early enough to help with the bedtime routine. We read mostly old 1960’s Marvel comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko and Don Heck, as well as old Silver Age DC Comics, because we all thought they were fun, and I own lots of hardcover reprints that were tougher for the boys to destroy if we read them together!

For this Christmas comic, I made my sons the heroes of this tale, I set the Zoo as the setting, I created a team of animal villains, and I packed the story with as much action as I was able, because I thought the boys would enjoy that best.

Of note: My wife really did make them super hero capes with their respective “O” and “B” on them, I drew a picture of the home we were living in at the time, and my youngest really did have a pacifier in his mouth at all times and a (whiffle ball) bat in hand a lot of the time like this (that he was constantly bonking against walls and furniture) and was just barely learning to start speaking, and a lot of the things that the boys say in this comic are a lot of things they were actually saying when they were this age.

Hope you enjoy, and thank you for your Patreonage!
Sincerely,
Chris
