Chris, a longtime fan of film noir, was attracted to Michael&#8217;s incredible sensibilities with his uses of black shadows to create depth, in such books as Batman: Nine Lives, the comic book adaptation of Raymond Chandler&#8217;s little sister, and then the police procedural Gotham Central and Daredevil. Even in comics like Captain America or Hawkman, his compositions with black stand out sharply.
