WAYNE THIEBAUD<\/strong> (American, 1920-) was a Pop Artist whose work pre-dated the 1960\u2019s Pop movement. He painted brightly colored lip sticks, ice creams, and pies by applying paint so thickly and smoothly, it looked like frosting that you could practically taste. I was lucky to take three classes from him at U.C. Davis, and he truly inspired me to think about and appreciate art and art concepts. He didn\u2019t show up for school one day because he had to be flown to Washington, D.C. to receive an honor from the President. I didn\u2019t realize what an important part of art history my teacher was until years later. I didn\u2019t appreciate his artwork until I saw at the San Francisco Museum of Modern art and then began studying his truly dizzying and awe-inspiring San Francisco city scapes, that so perfectly capture the feeling of driving those hilly neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
